The ZF Rear Sprocket ZFD-899-42 (42T) is a premium drivetrain component manufactured by ZF Sprockets. It’s engineered specifically for KTM adventure models within the 1050, 1090, 1190 and 1290 AR/ADV/Super Adventure families. The sprocket is built for a 525-pitch chain and features 42 teeth, offering a slightly altered final drive ratio compared with some stock configurations—typically resulting in improved low-end torque feel while retaining overall gearing compatibility.
Constructed from high-grade aluminium alloy with precise CNC machining, the dual-material “ZF Dual” design combines a lightweight core and a durable outer wear ring—providing reduced rotating mass without sacrificing strength or lifespan. The surface is anodised for corrosion protection and visual appeal, and the bolt-pattern is made to direct-fit the KTM hub for easy installation. Ideal for riders engaged in touring, mixed pavement/trail conditions or just seeking high-quality drivetrain upgrades, this unit ensures cleaner chain alignment, reduced unsprung mass, and improved response under load. Installation is straightforward—remove the rear wheel, unbolt the stock 41/40-tooth sprocket (or whatever the original was), mount the ZF 42T unit with fresh bolts if recommended, torque to spec, align the chain and adjust tension as required.

What’s not to love about this sprocket? The design is sleek, the material seems durable, and it’s easy to install. I’m really pleased with the results – my bike’s acceleration has improved significantly. One question though: Does anyone know if there are any plans for a 45T version in the future?

I’m quite disappointed with my experience with this ZF Rear Sprocket 42T – Orange KTM Duke 200. The color is lovely, but the quality seems to be lacking. The sprocket has already started showing signs of wear after just a few weeks of use. For the price, I expected better durability.
